Christoph Mergerson is a third-year Ph.D. student in Media Studies at the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University. His research interests are centered around the political economy of news media, media and democracy, race and news media, and digital media law and ethics.

He was a 2018 Consortium on Media Policy Studies Summer Fellow and Research Assistant with the Brookings Institution in Washington, where he researched federal telecommunications policy. He also presented a paper on the legal implications of sexual violence in virtual reality at the 68th Annual Conference of the International Communication Association (ICA) in Prague. He currently serves as Membership Chair and Graduate Liaison with the Electronic News Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. His advisor is Professor Susan Keith.

Christoph graduated with a master's degree in public policy from LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Internet policy under Gary Chapman. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science from California State University, Northridge, with additional coursework in news writing and reporting, mass communication law and ethics, visual communication, and the history of American mass media.  Prior to entering the Media Studies program, he worked in nonprofit public relations and community radio in New Orleans.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, his family is of Texan and Louisianan heritage.
